The Senior Juncture caters for students in Years 11 to 12 and focuses on preparing students to transition to life beyond school. In Year 9 and Year 10, teachers work closely with students and their parents/carers to identify their preferred post-school pathway using the Senior Education and Training (SET) plan process in preparation for their child’s senior schooling and post-schooling.

In Year 11 and 12, students work towards attaining their Queensland Certificate of Individual Achievement (QCIA) or VET certificates.

Queensland Certificate of Individual Achievement (QCIA)

All senior secondary students have the opportunity to work towards the Queensland Certificate of Individual Achievement (QCIA).

In Term 1 of Year 11, a QCIA curriculum plan is developed for each student using the Guideline for Individual Learning (GIL).

The QCIA curriculum plan records individual learning goals under five curriculum organisers:•    Communication and technologies•    Community, citizenship and the environment•    Personal and living dimensions•    Leisure and recreation•    Vocational and transition activities.

Your child may be enrolled in one or more VET certificate courses offered through the Special Education Training Alliance (SETA) that are taught by VET trained school staff.  These courses are overseen and managed by SETA central RTO based at Western Suburbs??? Special School (RTO 41021).

On successful completion of the course your child will be awarded a nationally recognised qualification. If your child does not complete the full qualification they will receive a Statement of Attainment outlining the units that have been completed successfully.

The courses offered at Hervey Bay Special School are as follows

  • BSB10120 - Certificate I in Workplace Skills
  • FSK10119 - Certificate I in Access to Vocational Pathways
